🐦1.13 Wildlife Tech Lab: Uncovering Hidden Bird Hotspots

In addition to the three major projects — Waterbird Survey, Breeding Bird Survey, and the Wood Snipe Project — our lab conducts regular fieldwork focused on identifying and validating new bird observation points.

This work targets urban fringe zones, especially parks near suburban areas or under-observed sites previously overlooked by local birders. Many of these areas are abandoned or undeveloped urban green spaces with surprisingly high avian diversity.

Our job is to formally evaluate these sites and push for their recognition as official birdwatching locations (set these as birding locations on the “China Birding Record Center”’s map). This contributes to broader ornithological data coverage and promotes long-term urban biodiversity monitoring.
