🐻12.7 CBRC: Why Our Bears Eat Dog Food Instead of Meat?

At our center, we feed rescued black bears dog food—not real meat.

Although bears are technically omnivores, most of the ones we care for came from illegal bear bile farms. These bears were repeatedly subjected to bile extraction. As a result, many arrived with severe gallbladder damage.

In most cases, their gallbladders had to be surgically removed. Without this organ, they can no longer digest meat properly.

Dog food contains the necessary proteins and fats in a form that is easier for them to absorb.

In short, our bears are on a medically enforced vegetarian diet—for survival, not preference.
