🦆1.8 CWBS: Pre-Survey Studying— Easy Trick to Identify Male and Female Common Kingfishers

Before leading the team a few days ago, I reviewed bird identification (some pre-studying so I don’t need to pull out my book when surveying). When I reached the common kingfisher page, I wondered how to distinguish males from females and if there was a simple way to remember it. I guess a good way is that females wear lipstick, while males do not. For common kingfishers, the female’s lower mandible is red, whereas the male’s is not. lol
