🐦2.12 Wildlife Tech Lab: The Return of Yangyang
Dr. Que likely saw that my leg was injured and sent me lots of birding photos to make me jelly. Originally, we were supposed to visit our old friend Yangyang together, a rescued peregrine falcon. Instead, he went alone.
Following the genetic imprint embedded in its DNA, Yangyang flew all the way from Russia back to Chengdu again, arriving just in time for the Spring Festival during the Year of the Snake.
Yangyang’s story: In 2023, local residents in Jianyang City found Yangyang injured and reported it. Authorities transferred the bird to a professional rescue center. Since it was found in Jianyang, it was named “Yangyang.”
Due to timely medical intervention, Yangyang’s weight increased from 881 grams at the time of rescue to 923 grams after more than ten days of intensive care. Expert evaluation confirmed full recovery and suitability for release.
Since that year, we have observed Yangyang during both spring and autumn migrations.
Remarkably, it takes only four days for it to fly from Lake Baikal to Jianyang. Birds always amaze me!
