🦮4.2 Vet Hospital: Why Spaying is Not Optional (Case Study on Pyometra and Ovariohysterectomy)

Today I shadowed two clinical cases. One involved acupuncture, which I will not elaborate on. The second was a combined case of pyometra and spaying surgery.

This case clearly demonstrated: if an animal is not used for breeding, it must be spayed. If it is not bred and not spayed, it is at high risk of developing pyometra.

The surgical process involved locating both the uterus and the ovaries. The ovaries must be completely removed. If any ovarian tissue remains, the animal may still show signs of heat, even though it cannot menstruate or reproduce.

Spaying is a preventive necessity, not a choice.
