🦮7.22-24 Chengdu Vet Hospital (Interning): Traditional Acupuncture for Dogs

These past few days, I've assisted Dr. Song Xiaoling with several cases. The most memorable clients were those that suddenly became paralyzed or had severe leg pain, struggling to walk. They were initially set for surgery, but after a single acupuncture session, they could stand, so their owners opted for conservative treatment and IV therapy instead.

Surprisingly, all of them were bulldogs. It seems like a genetic issue. Bulldogs are prone to respiratory diseases due to their short nasal passages. In summer, they overheat easily and have trouble breathing. Their short legs might also contribute to poor nerve conduction, making them more susceptible to paralysis. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), this could be linked to Yin deficiency. They required additional acupuncture at the Weishu (BL-21) acupoint to aid recovery.
