🐦‍⬛11.30 Luxelakes: Recap of my First Event at LuxeLakes Community

On the afternoon of November 30th, the Bird-Friendly Community Development Group held its first session in the Luxe Lakes Community Conference Room. Nineteen participants attended.

I led the session. I introduced my background in birdwatching and invited participants to recall their own bird encounters. These reflections helped identify existing problems in the community, such as bird-window collisions.

I presented the project framework: its mission, monthly themes, point-based engagement system, and planned activities. I also outlined birdwatching methods and clarified the difference between recreational birdwatching and the commonly misunderstood term “shooting birds.” I stressed birdwatching ethics—observe, don’t disturb.

I explained how beginners can become citizen scientists by using mobile apps, field guides, and other basic tools.

The session spoiled a bit on the project’s bird-themed mini-library. Each participant received a Luxe Lakes edition pocket bird guide.
