🐼🐶10.10 Panda Base SE X VH:Giant Panda National Park Tangjiahe Sector – Community Dog Vaccination and Cat Health Survey Conducted
Recently, we (panda base) conducted a dog vaccination and pet health survey in six communities around the Tangjiahe section of the Giant Panda National Park. Additionally, we launched a public awareness campaign under the theme "I Am a Good Neighbor to the Giant Panda—Scientific and Responsible Dog Ownership for a Harmonious Community."
On October 8, our team, including experts from our Disease Research (Vet Hospital) and Science Education teams, visited six communities—Luoyigou, Yinping, Dongqiao, Weibaxiang, Minli, and Suyang. We successfully carried out various activities, including dog ownership surveys, canine vaccination, sample collection from dogs and cats, public education on responsible pet ownership, and legal awareness campaigns on wildlife protection and disease prevention.
During this initiative, over 150 dogs and cats received vaccinations and health screenings, with more than 600 biological samples (including blood, fecal, and oral swabs) collected. Personally, I handled 246 of these samples and 56 dogs and cats vaccinations. Over 100 questionnaires were completed, and 450 educational materials on wildlife disease prevention and pet health were distributed. Additionally, 750 promotional items, such as leashes, tote bags, hats, and keychains, were handed out to the community.
Beyond vaccinating pets and conducting health surveys, we also educated local residents about zoonotic diseases and the importance of monitoring and preventing wildlife-related epidemics. We encouraged the public to contribute to building a strong "firewall" against animal-borne diseases, ensuring the protection of both domestic and wild animals, and safeguarding the harmonious and beautiful habitat of the giant panda.
