🦈8.5 Shoals Marine Lab: Sunset Cruise with Shoals (Day 1 on Appledore)
We arrived at Appledore around dinner time, so not much happened today. After dinner, we took a sunset cruise to a nearby island to see seals. While reviewing my photos, I spotted a shark bite on the gray seal right in front of us. It was so obvious — this was my first time seeing one in real life! By the way, since gray seals and harbor seals live so close to each other, I’m curious—could they potentially breed with each other? How do they, or can they, recognize that they are different species? The seals in my photos don’t appear to be hybrids (well… i can’t really tell lol). I can usually only distinguish between Harbour seals and grey seals, with Harbour seals looking more dog-like.
