🪵Wood Snipe Project: Daily Journal (6.2—Day 2 Tracking)

Day 2 (6.2)

Last night was partly cloudy. The moon and half the sky were visible. I barely slept, drifting in and out while listening for Wood Snipe calls. I recorded the times on my phone—1:11, 1:45, 2:09, and so on.

We got up before sunrise to observe them before they started their daily activity. The senior team members were still asleep after a long day of work. By around 5:50, the display flights had started to decrease. Fortunately, we still heard occasional calls near the camp. After some searching, we spotted a pair foraging in the same location where we had seen two individuals during scouting.

We took turns watching them and eating breakfast, tracking them from early morning until nearly 1 PM. Then, the weather suddenly changed.

Back at camp, we saw that the senior team (local villagers who are helping our team cook) had set up the kitchen tent.

After organizing our gear, we waited for the weather to improve, then went back to track the same two Wood Snipes. They were still walking and feeding, continuing until their display flights resumed after sunset.
