πŸ¦β€β¬›2025.1.1 Luxelakes: Celebrating New Years with Ducks! (Fifth Event)

On January 1st at 2:00 PM, the Luxe Lakes Bird-Friendly Community Group visited Jincheng Lake No. 1 to host its second wintering duck-themed event. I guided participants in observing waterbirds as a way to assess the waterbody, using a questionnaire to direct their attention. While identifying and counting ducks, group members observed the birds’ behavior and distribution to evaluate the lake’s condition, including water quality, aquatic plants, water flow, and surrounding vegetation.

This process not only helped participants understand the lake’s ecology and learn about habitat types and disturbances but also provided hands-on experience in citizen science. Since conducting surveys is an essential skill for citizen scientists, I aimed to equip participants with this ability through the event, contributing to the future development of a well-trained citizen science community at Luxe Lakes.

At the end of the event, I distributed another questionnaire, inviting participants to compare this waterbody with Luxe Lakes and reflect on why waterbirds are absent from Luxe Lakes.

Sometimes, Birds are not the center of our observations but our key to water or the surrounding environment.
