Procedures for Hernia Repair Surgery
1. Patient Preparation
Obtain informed consent from the patient.
Administer appropriate anesthesia (local, regional, or general) based on the surgical plan and patient condition.
Position the patient supine and disinfect the surgical site with an antiseptic solution.
Drape the surgical area to maintain a sterile field.
2. Incision and Tissue Dissection
Make a linear incision through the skin and subcutaneous tissue overlying the hernia site using a scalpel.
Use electrocautery or scissors to dissect through the superficial fascia and expose the hernia sac.
3. Identification of Hernia Defect
Carefully isolate the hernia sac from surrounding tissues.
Open the hernia sac if necessary and inspect its contents.
Reduce any protruding organs or tissues back into the peritoneal cavity.
4. Repair of Hernia Defect
Locate the defect in the abdominal wall.
Suture the defect using absorbable or non-absorbable sutures in an interrupted or continuous pattern.
If necessary, reinforce the repair with a surgical mesh to prevent recurrence.
5. Closure and Postoperative Care
Approximate the fascial layers and close them with appropriate sutures.
Suture the subcutaneous tissue and skin using absorbable or non-absorbable sutures or staples.
Apply a sterile dressing over the incision site.
Monitor the patient for complications such as bleeding, infection, or recurrence.
Advise postoperative care, including activity restrictions and follow-up appointments.
