๐ผ8.26 Panda Base VH: Optimizing Laryngoscope Design for Giant Pandas (Collab with Mindray)
Representatives from Mindray visited the veterinary hospital at the Giant Panda Base to discuss how to optimize the design of laryngoscopes to better suit the physiological characteristics of pandas. Given the unique anatomy of giant pandas, their deep throat and relatively narrow airway can make intubation and examinations challenging with conventional laryngoscopes. The veterinary team suggested adjustments to the angle and size of the device to facilitate easier insertion into the airway while minimizing irritation during procedures.
To improve flexibility and safety, the Mindray technical team proposed modifications to the length and maneuverability of the laryngoscope, ensuring it could accommodate different panda sizes, particularly the differences between juveniles and adults. The discussion also covered enhancements such as adjustable lighting and high-definition cameras to maintain clear visibility even in complex cases.
Regarding materials and durability, the veterinary team emphasized the need for a design that minimizes foreign body sensation while being durable and easy to disinfect, considering the high frequency of veterinary procedures. In response, Mindray representatives proposed several potential material improvements and committed to further testing and refinement in future iterations of the device.
