🐦‍⬛12.30 LuxeLakes: Learning about Waterbirds Together! (Fourth Event in this Community)

On December 30th, an online preparatory session was held, focusing on waterbird identification and habitat analysis. The session covered the definition of waterbirds, common species such as egrets and ducks, and their living habits. Participants also learned how to identify common duck species in Chengdu’s Jincheng Lake and were introduced to bird population counting techniques. The session explored different methods for estimating bird numbers, including continuous counting and group estimation techniques. Additionally, it discussed how habitat types and disturbances—such as water quality, temperature, food availability, and human activities—affect waterbird survival. Finally, the session addressed the conflicts between urban lakes and waterbird conservation, highlighting the threats posed by pollution and human activity. Participants were encouraged to fill out surveys, take notes, and raise awareness about waterbird protection.
